Rappahannock News Washington, Virginia Dear Editor,
At this time of year we seem to feel closer to our fellow man. We should keep this closeness the year I around.
1 have heard that the Washington Rescue Squad has pulled out from the Washington hire Company and reorganized as Rappahamuck Rescue Squad. The reason 1 just can't get all together. 1 have wanted to see this happen for a long time.
1 understand the squad has purchased a new squad truck (not before necevsar\ ) for the old one was a 48 model and had certainly served its purpose.
The Washington Rescue Squad was first organized as a‘part of the tire company since all concerned were members of both units. The lire company bought the first two squad- trucks but the oxygen equipment was not purchased with fire company funds. ITis money was raised by a raffle on a shot gun which was donated by a member (a fireman and rescue organizer). It cost about s.s!MI.()l) and naturally belongs to the rescue squad for use on the new ambulance.
Roth organizations ace for the benefit of the people of Rappahannock County; are volunteer groups supported by the people. It appears one group wants to go forward and the other wants to stand still as it has in the past years,
'i"he boys in the squad deserve'a lot of credit for wanting to stand on their own feet. They have proven themselves many times ami 1 know the county will be behind them \00'% if they continue to do their job well.
Now is the time for them to get legal advice; get a charter; set up by-laws and see that every member has a current Red Cross First Aid Card; have men on the squad who will work together for the benefit of the squad and the people it serves.
