Reports On Fires
Raymond M. Johnson, Chief Forest Warden for Rappahannock County, reports that 1 forest fire burned 18.00 acres of forest land from January 1 to May 15, 1961. This compares with a total of 2 fires which burned 2.50 acres of forest land for the same period in I960.
Throughout the sixteen-county Northern Virginia Piedmont area, a significant increase in fires occurred on railroad rights-of-way in 1961. In the sixteen counties, a total of 101 fires burned 247 acres of forest land. Thirty percent of these fires originated on railroad rights-of-way.
