Teachers To Meet
The teachers of Warren and Rappahannock Counties will meet at Warren County High School on Saturday, February 9 at 9:00 a.m. for a professional program. In line with the instructional emphasis this year the topic program will center around “C- ontemporary Mathematics”.
The teachers will be forunate to hear one of the aations foremost mathematics consultants, Dr. Bernard H. Gundlach who will oe the featured speaker. His topic will the “The Structure of Modern Arithmetic and the Applications for Teaching It*. Dr. Gundlach is wide ly known for his ability to explain in simple terms what is happening in school math today. He has been Professor of Mathematics at the University of Arkansas and Bowling Green State University. He was Mathematics "The Greater Cleveland Mathematics Project*. Also, he has served as a Mathematics Consultant for the New York State Department At present he is an author, and consultant for Laidlaw Brothers, textbook publishers. 5
He will speak to the teachers at 9;30 a.m. and at 11:00 a.m. he will conduct a demonstration on the teaching of the newer mathematics. The students are from the fifth grade at the A. S. Rhodes School.
A committee of local teachers is now in the process of reviewing new Arithmetic and Math textbooks. These new books will be used beginning with the school term next year.
