Jim Fauber of Staunton was recently elected president of the Staunton- Augusta chapter of the Izaak Walton League. In accepting this post Jim has identified himself with many other Virginia sportsmen who enjoy the out doors, but realize that a responsibility to this tremendous natural resource parallels the pleasure we desive from it.
There is a noticeable and disturbing lack of organization among the sportsmen of Virginia—particularly in the rural areas. And this is unfortunate as sportmen's organizations are the most effective media for getting before our lawmakers the clear cut needs of the fish and game resources of the state. Old Dominion sportmen's license money foots the bill of the million dollars plus budget of our commission of Game and Inland Fisheries, but all too often legislation directly or indirectly affecting hunting and fishing is .sponsored by people not interested in outdoor recreation. With the general hunting season now behind us, but with its problems still fresh in our minds, its a good time to join or organize a club—or to regenerate a sagging one. A club may be campletely independent or it may affiliate with one of the two state and national organization the Izaak Walton League of America or the Virginia Wildlife Federation membership in which also includes membership in the National Wildlife Federation.
In addition to legislative activity, club projects should include conservation, education, sportsme n-landowner good will and fellowship among the members.
