School, Wreck Autos
Rising temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday have somewhat alleviated the travel situation in Rappahannock. Monday schools were closed because of icy rural roads considered too dangerous for bus travel. Two minor accidents occurred also from slippery roads. Henry Wharton and Clyde Atkins of Sperryville collided head on near Rock Mills on Rt. 626 Monday morning. According to Trooper Paul Dicks, the two vehicles met on the crest of a hill on the narrow icy road. No one was injured. Mrs. T. C. Lea, Jr., of Washington and Coolidge Groves of Front Royal ran together on Piedmont Ave. in Washington Friday afternoon. About S300 in damage was done to the two vehicles according to Trooper W. A. Duntin.
