One of the moat beautiful areas for fishing, canoeing and general outdoor enjoyment of fast dashing water—the fisherman’s paradise—would be lost forever. This is the Kelly's Ford section of the Rappahannock five miles below Remington. This beautiful fast and tumbling section of fast water, one and a quarter miles tong, should be saved. No one who sees this and enjoys its beauty would want it flooded out to make a few more acres of flat dead water.
We should remember that the government can make thousands of acres of flat dammed up waiter. But K cannot make 100 feet of beautiful fast water,
dashing and plunging ovqr^lts ledges and rocks.
When fast water is destroyed it is gone forever. It can never be replaced. We have very little of this moat beautiful type of river given to us by nature. We should keep it. Once gone, It is gone forever.
And If recreation Is wanted let's build a parkway along the Rappahannock, on each side, and let more people see this river, fish in its fast water, canoe in it and walk along it and enjoy it as it is, at one-hundredth the cost of damming and destroying it.
If we do not get busy when this proposal of the Army Engineers comes before Congress it will be pushed through, our last river in this immediate area will be gone forever, and the taxpayers will have to pay for the destruction.
