Take Rabies Shots
Seven Rappahannock County men are taking the Pasteur shots for rabies after a calf they had handled proved positive according to laboratory report. Floyd Hitt and William McFarland of near Amissville were both bitten by a calf when they tried to administer medicine to it after the animal refused to eat. Also helping at different times to dose the calf were William Tharp, Herbert Hitt, Jimmy Compton, Vernon Jenkins, and Clinton Jenkins, all of whom are taking the shots. The head of the animal was sent to Warrenton to the Diagnostic Laboratory and the report returned was positive . Mr. Hitt and Mr. McFarland will be required to take 21 shots and 2 boosters and the others will need 14 injections and 2 boosters. The shots are administered twice a day for seven days and then once a day for seven days, with two additional boosters.
