A five per cent decrease in supply over last year is keeping Virginia broiler prices on a level slightly above those of 1962. Increased consumption brought about by supermarkets featuring c h i c k en and consumers beginning to use more with the return of outdoor living may serve to bolster prices in coming weeks, but beef and pork, now in a heavy supply situation, will offer stiff competition. Ordinarily the smaller supply would mean a greater improvement in prices. However, the decrease chiefly represents an adjustment by broiler producers to offset the decline in export sales. (The supply in July will be greater than last year, according to present figures.)
