Referendum
On May 21, 1963 wheat farmers all over the country will vote on the 1963 Wheat Referendum. Much more will be decided than just the price of wheat. “U. S. News and World Report’ has called this referendum the most important farm issue in a decade. The President and Congress have indicated that they will be watching the outcome, to see if the farmer wants more, or less, governmental controls In all of agriculture, not just wheat. Rappahannock County Farm Bureau opposes the referendum and urges wheat farmers to vote NO on May 21st. Some people think that governmental controls are Inevitable. This will not be true, as long as the American Farmer continues to express himself against more controls. The Referendum promises Virginia farmers an average price of $1.86 per bushel for #1 wheat.
