4-H Sears Pig Chain
Report Is Given
The Sears Roebuck Foundation has sponsored a purebred pig project in the county for about 17 years. Each year five purebred gilts are placed with five 4-H members to raise under the guidance of the county agent. Last year, Nelson Putnam, Stuart Palmer, Carroll Saunders, E. J. Pullen, Jr. and I were given pigs from the prew lous year’8 project members. Our projects were checked and scored. We had a supper in Front Royal in August and prizes were awarded by the Sears Foundation according to how well we had done. One requirement for,us was to give a pig out of Our first litter to another selected 4-H boy or girl. This year Jean Sisk, Linda Jenkins, Lois and Janet Yates, James Jenkins, and James Clayton Jenkins were chosen to receive one of out pigs to continue the Sears pig chain. I got a lot of experience out of the project. I hope this year the boys and girls will profit as much as we did.
