Crashes Reported

A rash of minor traffic accidents has occurred the past week in Rappahannock County. A head-on collision occurred on Fodderstack Road seven tenths of a mile west of Flint Hill with both vehicles a total loss but no personal injury. Russell Edward Roy of Flint Hill operating a 59 Ford crashed into another 59 Ford driven by his uncle Benjamin Bruce Roy of Washington at the crest of a hill in Freetown, Russell Edward Roy was charged with reckless driving, aci cording to Trooper Paul Dicks The same night at 8:30 on Route 211 in front of Bertha’s Diner in the Town of Washington, Cecil Roy Shewsbury of Daniels, W. Va. struck the curb and steps on the Massie property. Daniels swerved to avoid Roger Allen Welch, who he thought was going to back into the street. Damage to the Shewsbury vehicle was estimated at $100. There were no injuries, said Trooper Dicks who investigated the accident. On Saturday, March 7 at 8:30 p.m. on Route 522 in Flint Hill another two-car collision occurred. Earl Lee Putnam of Amissville in a 55 Ford proceeding north, made a left turn into the driveway of Capt. J. P. Cook and was struck in the left side. Richard Emerson Dole of Boyce, Va., 'operating a 62 Pontiac was also going north and according to Trooper Dicks attempted to pass. Dole was charged with passing on a double solid line. Damage to the Putnam car was $150 and $100 to the Pontiac. No one was injured. An Angus cow was killed Tuesday morning when struck by Lloyd Tolbert Elswick of Madison, Va. on Route 522 near Thornton Hill Farm, two miles south of Sperryville. $350 was estimated damage to the vehicle, a 63 Chevrolet, and the ^animal which belonged to William Meade Fletcher was valued at $500 Mr. Dicks also investigated this.
