Spec. 4 Galley W. Smith III, who is stationed out of Berlin, Germany with Company A of the 42nd Engineering Division of the United States Army, has become the first “Yank in the Royal Engineers”, after being made an honorary full corporal, complete with uniform, in the British Army. . He received the citation at a ceremony honoring him for his work in coaching a British basketball team in the divided1 city to two championships in the past two months. He began working with the 'British troops in response to a request by the 38th Field Squadron of Royal Engineers, to obtain a coach for the British team. Four weeks later the team won the British Minor Unit championship and went on to capture first place in the British First Division Finals for Minor Units held at Detmold, West Germany. This week the team is in Osnabrueck, West Germany to compete in the British Army of the Rhein Basketball Champ ionship.
