How’re you going to keep denim down on the farm after it’s been seen in Paree?
According to the National Cotton Council, the leisure look in cotton denim has become one of America’s most popular exports. This year American tourists in Paris, the home of “haute couture,” will be running into hosts of young French girls dressed in shifts, wrap skirts, and blue jeans made of good old American denim.
U. S. sportswear designers have sent over boatloads of fashionable cotton denim outfits, and they’re currently winning Parisienne approval at the Galeries Lafayette, the Macy’s of Paris.
The blue jean-clad French may not realize it, but the fabric they consider most typical of the American leisure look originated as a working man’s cloth in France.
