Rappahannock farmers, wives and their older children have been invited to join Culpeper farmers on their annual tour. This year the group will tour the Worlds Fair. Approximate cost, $40.00 per person which covers; transportation, lodging, two fair tickets, two other tour ticket^ one monorail ticket. About half the seats on one bus were available on Thursday of last week. The group will leave Culpeper early morning of August 12th and return late on August 14th. Farmers have recently contacted this office for weed identification and control. All proved to be serious pests. Johnson grass and Bermuda grass, (wire grass) may be controlled with Dalapon while Spotted Knapweed maybe controlled with 2,4-D. Follow directions on the container of each chemical. Most people are familiar with wire grass ( Bermuda grass). Johnson grass resembles Sudan grass in appearance. It reproduces both by seed and rhizomes (an elongated underground stem.knapweed has gray-green foliage, grows 2-3 feet tall, produces numerous seed, has a purple blossom about 1 1/2" in diameter.lt is also known as Star Thistle, probably because its bloom resembles that of a thistle.
