On Outer Banks
Washington— One of America's youngest and most popular national parks may soon get a twin. The Department of the Interior has recommended that North Carolina’s lower Outer Banks, south of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, be turned into a national park to be known as the Cape Lookout National Seashore. If the Cape Lookout project is approved, it will add to existing parkland 58 miles of shoreline, fromOcracoke Inlet south to Beaufort Inlet. The Cape Hatteras Seashore stretches 80 miles north from Ocracoke Inlet to Whalebone Junction on Bodie Island, the National Geographic Society says.
