On Saturday, August 15, just average men will become “knights’* for a day at Natural Chimneys, Mt. Solon, Virginia as they participate in the 143rd Annual Jousting Tournament held continuously at this spot since 1821. Acturally in the days of Chivalry, knights were just ordinary men bent on a definite mission. For this one day these modern knights as. sume a name under which they also ride on a very definite mission. The mission, being the winning of either the day or night event which entitles them to the prize and the privilege of crowning the lady of their choice as “Queen of love and beauty.* The-^astle like formation of NaturaPCfTimneys always give a realistic background to the opening ceremonies as the Honorary Queen and her court from her colorful float, are saluted by all the competing knights when they ride before her in the parade that precedes the opening of the event.
