Johnson Easily Carries Rappahannock
County in Tuesday*s General Election
As Rappahannock County went, so went Virginia!
Local voters turned out in record numbers in Tuesday’s General
Election to re-elect President Lyndon B. Johnson to a full
term as president with a 226 majority over his Republican opponent,
Barry Goldwater of Arizona. This marked the first time
since the Truman campaign of 1948 that the county has returned to the Democratic presidential fold.
Also winning easily were U. S. Senator Harry F. Byrd with
a 678 lead over his nearest, opponent, and Representative John
O. Marsh, Jr. with a 641 majority over his lone opponent.
A total of 1127 votes were cast in> the county, an increase of 158 over the 1960 General Election. Following is the unofficial return by districts in the county. DISTRICTS
