Elects Officers
Newly elected officers for Amissville Ruritan Club are: president, Nelson Burner; vice president, L. J. Davis; treasurer, C. R. Priest, se&retary, Jerry Curtis; director for 3 years, Aubrey Curtis. The Ruritans will hold Ladies Night at their November meeting which ^will be held on the 18th. Jimmy Colvin has been accepted as a new member of the club. The first week in November has been set aside as Ruritan Week in recognition of the—contributions- that—over13,000 members through their 400 clubs are making to the progress of the Commonwealth and rural communities in particular. The first Ruritan Club was organized in Holland, Va. in 1928. Today there are clubs in 19 states, with a total memJ bership of over 36,000. Ninety two of Virginia’s counties are served by one or more Ruritan Clubs. Their object is to make the community an ideal place in which to live. Rural communities are the backbone of our great nation. Activities of the various Ruritan clubs vary in each community, depending onthe need Each club has 12 rural needs committees whose work covers all segments of rural life.
