A six-hour trail ride and two continuous days of fox hunting started the Rappahannock Hunt’s 1964-65 season off with a strenuous bang for an opening week. Sunday, October 25, one of the most beautiful days of this Fall, saw 41 Rappahannock Hunters and guests, of every size and age—ranging from the pre-kindergarten set of Brook Miller and “Ma-Stuart" Fletcher to the lean and fit gentle* man octogenarian, Mr. George Wallahan of Front Royal. The mounts varied amusingly, from Brooks Ingersoil’s dappled 3-foot high pony, "Piccolo", to Bernie Dahlgren’s 17-hand grey “Wellington". (Both jumped everything handily.) The destination of the trail ride, atop Red Oak Lookout Mountain, provided a sweeping panoramic view into five counties; Rappahannock, Culpeper, Madison, Orange, and Fauquier. With the gentian backdrop of the Blue Ridge Range, the view was comparable to anything the Rocky Mountains could offer. Besides this aesthetic visual axperience, the trail riders found on arrival at Red Oak, a very impressive bucolic sight: Four mountain girls, with playing babes at knee, Dusy unwrapping delicious dishes from heavy-laden hampers and spreading a long table
