The Shorthorns averaged 939 pounds (S' 265 days; 2.56 lbs. per day of age, type average of 14 (high choice) and an average index of 153. JHerefords averaged 909, 2.46, 13, and 148; 864 pounds (S' a year old, 2.27 pounds per day of age, type of 13, and index of 142.
Piedmont Farm’s bulls were very uniform In their performance which is indicated by but a two point spread in index scores. Two of the four Johnson bulls bettered 900 pounds @365 days of age, the average of all of them was above the average for the Angus. On March 2 1 went out to see the bulls. Lease George had them penned as he was busy clipping heads. Couldn’t eyeball them individually too well but can say without hesitation - the lot lboked better than any group they’ve ever had. A brief study of the catalogue confirms this belief. A Hereford bull from Still House Hollow has an official lifetime index of 166! This future like, lot T 3, ■ weighed 1044 pounds @ 365 days of age and graded High Choice. An Angus bull, lot 114, was giving him close run for high index by winding up with 165 and grading a notch higher - lord fancy. This bull produced by William H. Perkinson of Lawrenceville. Lots 1, 13, 37, 69, and 100 all weighed over that magical 1000 pounds at 365 days of age. Further there are 42 bulls with year-old weights above 900 pounds! Furthermore if you’ll take time to study the pedigrees of these animals you’ll note many now have built in performance records. A freak is a freak is a freak is a freak.
