If the grower diverts between 20 and 40 percent of his base, the lower rate applies to the minimum diversion and the higher rate to the balance diverted. The higher rate is onehalf the county’s total support rate. > But if the grower signs up and actually diverts at least 40 percent of the base, the higher rate will apply to the entire acreage diverted. Farmers signing up in both the wheat and feed grain programs may divert either feed grains or wheat under the program’s substitution plan, and in this case the diversion payments will be based on the actual crop reduced. Under this plan, any acreage credited to diversion from feed grains in excess of the signed intention would be paid for at the minimum feed grain diversion rate.
