Exhibits were many varied and attendance was good at the Rappahannock County Garden Flower Show held Friday in the educational building of Washington Baptist Church. The horticulture sweepstakes was won by Mrs. Francis J. Leonard of Amissville. Mrs. Helen M. Kilby, Sperryville, was awarded the artistic sweepstakes and Mrs. C. H. Estes, Sperryville, won the tri-color. ' In the kitchen arrangement, Francis J. Leonard took first place with his retired farmer beside a collection of most everything including radishes and asparagus. Mrs. W. R. Williamson was second and Mrs. C. E. Johnson, Jr. third. Lewis Butler of Amissville took the men’s class with striking arrangement of strawberry foliage and fruit. C. E. Johnson, Jr. and Gen. Daniel Noce were second and third respectively. The Valley Garden Club of Front Royal placed first in “Our Churches” class open to clubs only. Nancy Melody, Mary Jan Delph and Betsy Williams took the three places respectively in the childrens competition with honorable mention going to Kim Estes, Liftdsay Eastham and John Henry Williams.
Mrs. C. H. Estes with her foxhunting arrangement for “Fun in the Hills' took first place. Mrs. Helen M. Kilby and the Arts and Crafts group followed second and third. With a McGuffeys fifth reader as a accessory. Mrs. Kilby took first place in the “Past and Present” class. In second and third places were Mrs. C. H. E6tes and Mrs. W. R. Williamson. Mrs. Kilby took the “Forward Look” class also, a modern arrangement with
