A 15 ampers fuse has a capacity of 1800 watts and belongs on a number 14 wire. This is the size wire usually found in older homes. A 20-ampere fuse, with a capacity of 2400 watts, is the right size for number 12 wire. This is the size recommended for appliance circuits in new homes. Overheated wires, and fires can be caused by using the wrong fuse, or a penny repaired fuse. These five warning signals are real dangers which should not be ignored. ,
