Businesses Is Up
Total receipts of Virginia's 17,719 service businesses were $589 million in 1963, an increase of 25 percent over the amount taken in during 1958 according to a report from the 1963 Census of Business just issued by theU. S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Census. For the U. S. as a whole, service businesses had receipts ofr $44.6 billion, 37 percent over 1958. Arlington led all Virginia counties with service business receipts of $49 million, and Fairfax county was second with nearly $30 million. Richmond topped the State's cities with $85 million. Norfolk was second with $62 million, followed by Alexandria, $34 million; Roanoke, $30 million; Newport News, $16 million; Virginia Beach, $15 million; Portsmouth, $13 million, Falls Church and Lynchburg $10 million each.
