The types of service businesses included in the Census and their 1963 receipts compared with 1958 were: personal services (laundries, beauty shops, etc.)$173 million, up 29 percent. Miscellaneous business services $130 million, up 9 percent.
Hotels, motels, etc. $91 million, up 32 percent. Auto repair and service $84 million, up 33 percent. Amusement, recreation (except motion pictures) $48 million, up 69 percent. Miscellaneous repair services $47 million, up 30 percent
Motion pictures, $17 million down 21 percent. The statistics are included in the report, “Selected Services, Virginia, 1963 Census of Business.” The report gives 1963 and 1958 figures covering number of establishments number of employees, dollars in receipts and payroll for each of seven major groups of service businesses in the State in each county, each city and each metropolitan area.
