Only one out of five voters in the United States changes parties luring his lifetime, according to ;he survey. To what extent has this been the case in Rappahannock County? Hie following figures provide the answer. In the 1964 election, the local vote was 449 for the Republican candidate and 675 for the Democrat. In 1960 it was 426 Republican and 544 Democrat. Hie tally in 1956 was 514 for the Republican and 523 for the Democrat. Summing up the results of the three presidential elections, local voters gave a total of 1,389 votes to the Republican candidates and 1,742 to the Democrats. Thus, the Republicans ended up with some 44 percent of that total and the Democrats with 56 percent. How this compares with the State of Virginia as a whole is shown in the overall figures for those election years. The Republicans got 53 percent of the total and the Democrats 47 percent.
