Upon conversion, the new more modem switchboard will serve an expanded area including Orange, Gordonsville, Unionville, Louisa, Mineral and Buckner. Hie present group of 30 operators will grow to 45 to handle the additional calls. Many new operators have already been employed and trained in an intensive two-week course.
Gone will be the rotary dial of today’s switchboard and in its place will be a modern pushbutton keyset that uses electronic signalling. The result

Information and intercept mils will no longer be handled at the toll switchboard as an auxiliary service. Modem cordless consoles will put information and intercept operators in a space age environment.
Even among all this modem equipment, there is one old-fashioned idea that will be retained with no modification. That is the telephone tradition of service to the customer. The operator will be there 24 hours a day, seven days a week, ready for routine or emergency service.
