Affect Sportsmen
A number of changes enacted by the 1970 Virginia General Assembly will affect the State’s outdoorsmen on or about July 1, the Game Commission reminds. For instance, throwing a beverage can on a stream bank or dropping your lunch bag in a dove field could cost you your hunting qt fishing license under newly revised Section 29-77. The section makes ft mandatory that the court revoke the license of persons found guilty of littering while hunting, trapping or fishing.
The Commission was authorized to lease land or buildings owned by it to private persons, with the approval of the Governor, provided such arrangement is consistent with the purposes of the Commission. One thing this would do is permit leasing land and facilities to concessionaires. A 25 dollar fee was established for raising bobwhite quail in captivity for sale as food under rules and regulations of the Commission. The Commission was authorized by Senate Bill 408 to charge a daily use fee for shooting stocked game birds on its areas. A quail shooting experiment on the White Oak Mountain Area will be the first application. House Bill 597 relieved the Game Commission of the legal obligation lor shortening seasons or reducing bag limits at the request of local boards of supervisors when the Commission thought such action inadvisable.
