Allocations totaling $206.4 million for construction on Virginia’s interstate, arterial, regular primary and urban road systems were tentatively approved Thursday by the State Highway Commission. The funds, for the fiscal year beginning July 1, are $8.3 million more than the sum for the current year, chiefly because increased travel is expected to produce that much more in state highway user taxes.
A breakdown of the total follows:
*Interstate-$103,052,592, an increase of $56,122.
* Arterial-$56,905,000, up $905,000.
♦Regular Primary-$23,095,000, up $3,812,727.
*Urban-$23,423,205, up $3,571,231.
Final action on the 1970-71 allocations will be taken by the Commission after public hearings next month.
