Licensure Waiver
Waiver provisions for practical nurses in the recently enacted Nurse Practice Act requirinfl every person who nurses for hire to be licensed in the State ol Virginia are explained by Miss Mabel E. Montgomery, R.N., Secretary-Treasurer of the Virginia State Board of Nursing.
“Application for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Virginia must be made before July 1, 1971,” says Miss Montgomery. “The requirements for licensure are that the applicant is of good moral character; has practiced practical nursing in this state at least two years within the five year period immediately preceding the effective date of the law (July, 1970), or has completed a portion of a professional nursing curriculum equivalent to the requirements included in the practical nursing curriculum; has the endorsement of two physicians licensed in Virginia oi two professional nurses who have personal knowledge of the applicant; and by two persons who have employed the applicant; and has passed ai examination administered by the Board of Nursing.”
Application forms may be obtained by persons who car qualify for the examination from the office of the Virginia State Board of Nursing, 1205 Central National Bank Building, Richmond 23219. After August 1, 1970, the Board offices will be located in the 8th Street State Office Building, 803 East Broad Street, Richmond 23219. Fee for writing the examination is $20.00.
