Dear Editor,

I would like to answer a letter which I received several weeks ago concerning the stocking of trout streams in this area. This letter was circulated among the general public for signatures and contained the names of 46 people. I feel it is both proper and necessary to answer it publicly so that all signers and other interested parties know my reply. The letter read as follows:

Mr. Irvin Kenyon Game Warden Boston, Va.

Dear Mr. Kenyon:

We, the undersigned, wish to express general discontent with the sparse stocking of trout streams in this area this season.

For our information, will you please provide a breakdown of the number of fish placed in the Rush, Thornton and Covington Rivers, and in Piney Run?

And will you further inform us of the numbers of fish scheduled to be released into those streams and others in Rappahannock this year? We know that you, as well as we, are eager to see the Ashing sport flourish here. We do not feel that all that might be done in this direction is being done now. We will await your answer.

This was followed by the names of 46 people, mainly from the Washington-Flint Hill area. In reply to the first paragraph, I’d like to say to the best of my knowledge, the majority of “the undersigned’’ were not trout fishermen, in Rappahannock waters anyway, and could have, at the least, only a hearsay knowledge of whether the streams were sparsely stocked “this season”. Some of these r people I have talked tp, and they ‘tell me tmykifltiefstooti the letter i was an effort to get more Ash stocked and they signed if for this cause. Some of the signers are 1 trout fishermen and may have < genuinely felt that there were less : fish this year.
