The Amissville Ruritans, last Wednesday, enjoyed the company of 17 members of the club sponsored Little League baseball team. However, it was a cooperative endeavor with the Amissville Homemakers Club serving and underwriting the boy’s dinner. This placed the Homemakers Club in the position of rendering a double service to both boys and the men of the community.
Following the roast turkey dinner which was a tribute of excellence to the Homemakers Club, the coach of the Little Leaguers, B. Settle took the floor. As each boy was introduced, Settle gave a short, carefully worded bibliography which outlined the boy’s baseball abilities as well as a character study of the young man.
Acting as spokesman for the group, Frankie Williams expressed his appreciation of their coach and his assistant Stanley Settle. Extending his thanks to the Ruritans, young Williams included the gift of the team’s suits and the opportunity to join the men at dinner. He then presented B. Settle with an attractive tie clip, token of the team’s high regard.
In a return play, Coach Settle then chose Williams as the outstanding player of the year and presented him with a baseball so inscribed. A second gift, a wrist watch, was an added surprise. From the standpoint of 1 mutual admiration between the Ruritans and their guests it is very likely the club has a built-in register of future Ruritan members.
At this time, Pres. Nelson Burner introduced the Rev. Charles Kindred, regretfully announcing his resignation from the Club, to take up a new pastorate. The Rev. Mr. Kindred had appropriately been chosen by
