Good weather and good hunter success marked the first two days of the season in Rappahannock County. Through Tuesday evening 45 deer had been killed and checked in Rappahannock County. Another 3 deer were checked here but had been taken in Fauquier and Culpeper counties.
Five bear have been reported taken in Rappahannock. John Clark of Sperryville got one the opening day of bear season last week.
Turkey season is closed in Rappahannock but two county men, Lawrence R. Williams, and Ollie Wines, both of Chester Gap, checked hens taken in Warren County.
The two day pheasant season produced two cock birds. Bobby Corbin of Front Royal and Charles Presgraves of Flint Hill each checked one of the big birds at Bradford’s store.
Among local hunters taking deer in Rappahannock were Donald Mills with an 8 point buck and Richard Burke of Huntly a 5 pointer. Also William Tombs and John Paul Dodson of Flint Hill with 4 and 3 pointers respectively. The local hunter list also includes Robert Clatterbuck, Sperryville, 4 points, Marshall Burke, Woodville, 8 point, Charles Smoot, Washington, 9 points, Clement Clatterbuck, Washington, 8 points, John Stringfellow, Washington, 5 points, Ruth Ann Pullen, Flint Hill, 8 points and James Atkins of Washington, a 7 pointer.
