Twenty-third Psalm

Has been our help in ages past and our hope for years to come. It is a familiar portion of the Old Testament that has been frequently repeated but seldom understood. However, when the seeds of its meaning are sown into depths of our hearts and minds, we shall reap a degree of comfort when the time comes for us to pass through the valley where murderous men and thieves are lurking. In times like these, when Christians are frustrated and young people are turning towards the use of pot and other narcotics in search of their identity, the Twenty-third Psalm tells us who we are and that we cannot cope with the devil - or our base selves alone. It also says that as long as death is within the equation of life, mankind must have a God.
The Twenty-third Psalm can be used fittingly in the times of great sorrow, but its author, David, was up against a situation that we are in today. He had to lead his herd of sheep through a valley where vicious men lurked and it was then and there that he realized that his know-how as a shepherd and his old wooden staff were no match for the danger confronting
