Offers Protection
Young fathers who feel they have lots of responsibility and littlfe financial security for their families if they die or are disabled may have more protection than they think, according to Mrs. Hazel F. Crumpton, social security district manager in Winchester.
“Social security can help support not only the worker, but also his wife and children if he is disabled,” she said. “And it can provide monthly checks for his family if he dies.”
“Each month nearly 2'/j million disabled workers and their dependents and over 3 million surviving children and widoweq mothers get social security checks,” said Mrs. Crumpton.
Amounts of the checks depend on the worker’s average earnings under social security.
Disability benefits for a worker with a wife and one child range from $96.00 a month to a maximum of $434.40, with the average about $273.00. Most young men whose annual salaries are in the $7,500 range and above would be eligible for benefit payments close to the maximum
