Clothes for a young child should fit his needs and interests -- not his parents’ likes and dislikes. Young children’s clothes should be the correct size, styled for freedom of choice, should be sturdy, allow for self-dressing, be suited to the weather and should be of correct weight.

While all children have individual preferences about their clothes, what the child likes most in clothing is ornamentation. Buttons, bucklers on shoes, embroidery or ribbons -- all are focal points of the child’s interest on his clothes.

Newness. It does not matter to the child, if the clothes are new or hand-me downs, as long as the clothes are new to him. They want to wear their new clothes at once.
