The Medical College of Virginia’s new and unusual vehicle for transporting donor kidneys this month carried organs originating in Maryland and in Georgia for transplantation at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
The new van is an integral part of an exchange system involving Virginia’s two medical schools and ip other teaching institutions and hospitals in the Southeast with the primary aim of matching available cadaver kindeys and the most suitable recipients for transplants.
