Social Security Administration also pays benefits to persons who have been continuously disabled since before reaching age 18, if their parent is insured under social security, dies or becomes entitled to retirement or disability benefits.
Disabled widows and widowers 50 or older may be paid if the disability began not later than seven years after the death of the insured spouse or the end of a widow’s entitlement to benefits as a mother caring for her children. Even though there is a six month waiting period before benefits can begin in the case of disabled workers and severely disabled widows and widowers, it is not necessary to delay making application.
