A few years ago the King of Sweden decorated Mr. Tholand Commodore of the Order of Vasa for his work in promoting Swedish-American friendship and commerce. Mr. Tholand was a member of the American Institute of Metallurgical Engineers, American-Scandinavian Foundation, American Society of Swedish Engineers, Swedish Chamber of Commerce of the United States, Swedish Club of Chicago, Detroit Athletic Club, and was a trustee of the ScrippsHoward Foundation.
He is survived by his widow, Marta von Platen Tholand and daughter, Carolyn, of Sperryville, and two sons, Jens U. and Claes G., of Richmond.
The family announces there will be no services.
