Allocations totaling $225.1 million for construction on Virginia’s interstate, arterial, regular primary and urban road systems were tentatively approved Thursday by the state Highway Commission.
The funds, for the budget year beginning July 1, are $18. •million more than the sum for the current year, chiefly because of an increased federal allotment for the interstate system and because traffic increases are expected to provide higher amounts in state road user taxes. The Commission said, however, that the additional revenue would be largely off-set by increased construction costs. A breakdown of the total follows: -Interstate - $112,432,909, an increase of $9,380,317.
-Arterial - $56,567,000, down $338,000.
-Regular Primary - $29,159,449, up $6,064,449.
