Parade Winners
A successful four-night run was reported by the Sperryville firemen of their annual benefit carnival held last week. A large parade, well attended, was said to be the best in several years and proceeds from the carnival were rewarding. Walter D. Brooks of Gordonsville was awarded the grand prize, a 1971 Maverick, which was given away at the close of the event Saturday night. Other prizes were: $50 Savings Bond to Jimmy Taylor of Warrenton; $25 Savings Bond to Russell G. May of Brandy Station; auto battery to Margaret Chambers of Broad Run and $10 in groceries to Steve Harris of Orange. Parade winners Thursday night included the following: best appearing pumper from town over 500 population, Falls Church, first and Front Royal, second; same from town under 500, Remington, first and The Plains, second; best appearing fire department was Yorkshire with Marshall second.
