Earnings from summer jobs may affect monthly payments fo£ student social security beneficiaries, according to Mrs. Hazel F. Crumpton, district manager in Winchester.
Over 4 million young people collect monthly social security benefits as children of retired, disabled, or deceased workers. Many of these young beneficiaries will spent the summer school vacation working, Mrs. Crumpton said.
“The amount students earn can have an important effect on their benefits,” she said. “If total earnings for the year-including part-time and summer work - are more than $1,680, social security benefits are reduced. But student beneficiaries can receive full benefits for any month in which they do not earn more than $140,” she said.
