The largest State Police Basic Training School in recent years, consisting of 60 conditionally appointed troopers, convened in Richmond July 26, Colonel H. W. Burgess, the Department’s Superintendent reported today. Basic training, which lasts 21 weeks, includes 162 subjects ranging from one-hour lectures on such topics as extradition and license plate types to 48 hours of pursuit driving and 52 on the Motor Vehicle Code.
Immediately upon employment, a conditionally appointed trooper is assigned to a field station where he works with an experienced trooper until the next Basic Training School convenes. He must have a minimum of a month of such training. Upon completion of basic training, he goes to his permanent duty station as a trooper.
