Essay contest
AMISSVILLE RURITAN CLUB will sponsor patriotic essay contests this year among high school and junior high students in the public schools of Rappahannock County. Winning essays from the county will be entered in Ruritan District contests.
For grades 9 through 12, the topic will be “My Responsibility for Maintaining Freedom in America.” The subject for students of the 6th, 7th and 8th grades is “Why I Am Proud to be an American.” A first place award for the high school group will be a $25 Savings Bond and second prize will be $10 cash. In the junior high division prizes will be $10 cash and $5 cash for first and second place, respectively.
W. H. Lyne, chairman of the Patriotism Committee of Amissville Ruritan Club which annually sponsors the essay competition said: “Essays should not exceed 500 words and must be turned in not later than May 15. The contest in county wide, not just for students in the Amissville area. —■
