RAPPAHANNOCK Coun_ ty track teams, both boys ^ and girls, have exceptionally good individual members, but the teams, overall, lack depth and consequently fail to capture competition titles as a whole.
In a meet Saturday at Culpeper the Lady Panthers were defeated by the Devilettes. However, Maureen Day of RCHS took first place in four events. She was first in the high jump wiht 4’ 8” and the long jump with 15-1/2’; low hurdles and the 220 dash.
Katie Pendleton, showing promise, was second in the long jump, the 50 yard dash and the 220. Sharon Foster took a second in the hurdles while Nanette Butler placed second in the shot and Margaret Jett did - likewise in the discus. Judi Burke was second in the high jump and Nancy Jones placed third in the 880.
In competition with Strasburg, Rappahannock was the victor with 68-1/2 points
to their opponents’ 311/2. Maureen Day excelled again in the high and long jumps and hurdles and aided the 880 relay team to place first. Katie Pendleton was first in the 50 yard dash and the 100 yard dash.
