the respective school boards. The meeting and the recommendations were prompted by the recent statements from the President, Governor Holton and Virginia Secretary of Education Earl J. Shiflet.

It was the opinion of the . area superintendents that if Daylight Savings Time is put into effect on a full time basis, school schedules should be adjusted to prevent students from boarding buses before daylight.

Recommendations on modification of school calendars will be withheld for further study until state guidelines are issued.

The recommendations are as follows:

HEAT — Thermostats in schools and offices to be set at 68 degrees during the day and 65 degrees in late afternoon and evenings. Further adjustments to be made during weekends and holidays depending on the heating system and type of building. Outside doors and windows are to be closed tightly.
