In your pre-election issue you carried a news story which stated, if I remember correctly, that there appeared to be virtually no support for Henry Howell for Governor in Rappahannock County and that just about everyone was for Godwin. As it turned out, out of 1,136 votes locally for the Governorship, Howell was supported by 503 Rappahannock residents, and Godwin’s victory was a narrow one. The breakdown, in fact, showed that Howell won by the whopping majority of 66 to 12 in Chester Gap, and lost by only a few votes in Flint Hill and Amissville, and by only 26 votes in Washington itself. Only in Woodville and Sperryville voting areas did Godwin win handily.
