I have just read your excellent article on the “dog problem” in Rappahannock County. I believe Col. Luke’s proposal to increase the dog tax is certainly called for. I hardly think the average dog owner would complain about a necessary increase, which this certainly is. However, I feel the proposed kennel rate of $30 and $50 are much too low. Owners with 25 and 50 dogs either have an extreme luxury that deserves a higher tax or are in a business of sorts and should write off a higher tax as overhead.
There will no doubt be a ruckus, again, from German Shepherd owners, and they seem to be numerous, for singling out their breed for a higher tax rate. We have all known a mean German Shepherd, but a few mean terriers and hounds, too. Perhaps a calltoAKC
