Editor: With reference to the article by Ed Harris in the last editions of the (Piedmoot Virginian and Rappahannock News) concerning the Vepco transmission line case now before the State Corporation Commission, we appreciate the author’s interest in assuring that Vepco does not build a new line across his farm or across anyone else’s land. That is precisely why the the Rappahannock and Warren Leagues for Environmental Protection challenged the corporate giant and committed resources into the future to establish the nationwide precedent of using existing corridors rather than virgin landscape for new transmission lines. However, we must make several corrections in fact to that article:
1. Our attorneys did indeed challenge the need for any new line after initially reserving that right until the utility case had been presented.
2. Our February 21st efforts to defeat House Bill 664 in the General Assembly, now pending signature or veto by Governor Godwin, were because local governments and interested citizens are not also a party to utility planning. The lull specifically indues local governments, groups and imfividuals in S.C.C. one-stop licensing procedures long after utility investment in planning and surveying has been completed (my words) and
