Eighty thousand acres are being planted with tree seedlings in Virginia. Private landowners and wood-using industry will have completed this conservation practice by the end of April. A merchantable product such as pulpwood will be grown in 15 to 18 years. Approximately 800 seedlings will plant one acre. State and Federal programs will subsidize the planting costs. Landowners should contact local County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office or County Virginia Division of Forestry representative for information.
